Steals from the Steam Summer Picnic Sale
The Steam Summer Sale is nearly over with the wondrous attack on our wallets wrapping up on July 4th at 10AM PDT. Of course I’ve added more to my backlog, but I wanted to point out a few specific gems for you all. Keep in mind there are tons of great deal, but these in particular stood out to me.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter // $3.99
I’m a sucker for games that present engrossing detective elements and The Vanishing does that and more. It doesn’t take long to learn that things may not be as they seem, but I still didn’t expect the heart wrenching ending. Grab your headphones and give it a shot. Also, here’s my full review.
Civilization V Complete // $12.27
I’m pretty adept in most strategy genres but I’m getting my feet wet with 4X titles. I was only going to list things under $10 but this is a deal you simply can not pass up. Along with the full game you get 16 DLC downloads that add gameplay elements, maps, rulers, and more. Check Alec Meer’s Wot I Think over on Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
This War of Mine // $4.99
If you’re like me, you welcome a little change of pace to your gaming every now and then. That’s exactly what This War of Mine is for me. I get fairly frustrated with most survival title of a similar style, but This War of Mine changes things up just enough to keep me interested. Give it a try and see the other side of the wars so popular in gaming.
L.A. Noire // $4.99
L.A. Noire was a wonderful experience. There are some pacing stutters in the later chapters but it’s capped off with a great final chapter, even though it deviates significantly from the rest of the game. The studio behind this game is closed, but I hope we get an open world detective drama inspired by this in the near future. This is a steal at this price.
Spec Ops: The Line // $7.99
Ok. OK! I know my friends are tired of me talking about Spec Ops: The Line but it is STILL a pinnacle third person shooter that has yet to be matched since its release. Ignore the multi-player (the devs certainly wanted to) and get pulled into one of the darkest stories that really turns the camera onto its players in a well done way. Check out this incredible article on it from David Jagneaux via Playboy.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong — Extended Edition // $6.99
